Kei was on his way back to his apartment, navigating through the streets of Bellmuse central when all of a sudden he heard a random voice call for him from a nearby alleway.

"Hey you. I got something for you."

Kei stopped in his tracks and looked over to his left to the origin of the voice. It was some old looking guy with a fat white beard, long white ponytail and a very worn robe on. Kei didn't ask, but he was pretty sure the guy was homeless. In most cases, Kei would have just completely avoided someone who looked like that, but after completely going broke at the local casino, Kei was a bit ticked off to just turn the other cheek.

"Listen," Kei said bluntly, "I don't have any money on me. Go harass someone else."
"No no no," The old guy chuckled, "You've got it all wrong. I'm not here to take anything from you. Actually I'm offering you an opportunity."
"An opportunity?" Kei questioned, though still annoyed, "What is this? Some kind of scam? I told you I don't have money on me. You won't be getting anything from me."
"Its free." The old man chuckled, "I assure you."
"No way." Kei replied, "I'm not buying it. Besides, I don't even know what you're offering me. How do I even know if I want it in the first place.?"

Still chuckling, the old pulled out a black brief case from out behind himself and laid it in front of him on it's side. Snapping the locks, he slowly opened the brief case, revealing the contents inside.

"Not everyone has ill intentions you know? And Besides, I think you'll be very interested." The old man said.

"I don't even know why I'm following you.." Kei muttered as he trailed behind the old man who Kei assumed was homeless.
"It's cause you find me interesting. Admit it." The old man grinned triumphantly.

What ended up happening earlier was the that homeless-appearing man revealed a breifcase full of fire dust crystals. It wasn't lower end dust either, it was some high tier stuff, like the old man stole it from somewhere. For some odd reason, the old man was offering to show Kei some tricks. Pretty sure that he could defend himself against elder man should he try to rob him of his stuff, Kei agreed, curious to what exactly the old man was trying to accomplish.

The elder man led Kei out to the edge of the city onto one of the many beaches on the island. The was empty with no one else around, resulting in nothing but the sound of the wind and the waves to be heard.

"So," Kei started slowly, "What exactly are we doing here?"

The old man said nothing, and simply put the breifcase in his hand down and reached into his coat with that same hand. From out of his coat, the old man pulled out a small, fire dust crystal. The old man turned his body out to the sea and held the fire dust crystal in an open palm in front of him. The old man stared out into the sea for several seconds, then back at the fire dust crystal. Without hesitation, he then turned his open palm into a hard fist, crushing the fire dust crystal inside. He waved his closed fist in front of his body, opening his hand as he did, scattering the fire dust into the air.

For a few moments, nothing happened other then the red glitter like fire dust which slowly fell into the sea. Instantly then, almost as if out of thin air, a huge flame explosion consumed the entire airspace above the ocean in front of the man. The blast was huge, easily half the size of a baseball field and the shock wave nearly knocked Kei off his feet. Despite standing well behind the older man, the heat from the explosion was nearly unbearable.

Even after the flames died down, Kei could still feel the heat in his face. Kei wasn't entirely sure what he had just witnessed, but it was hardly what he was expecting.

"Just... Just who are you?" Kei asked in disbelief.
"Garth Galvon, The Fire Sage," Gan said casually, "But also as you already know, just your average hobo."

Kei

Garth motioned for Kei to open his hand, which Kei then did. Garth empty half a vile of red fire dust into Kei's open hand.

"Dust is energy. Aura is energy." Garth told Kei, "Though different in image, they are the same to the very base. Learn to manipulate one and you can manipulate the other. Feel the aura course through your hand. Use the dust as an extension of your aura."
"That makes no sense," Kei pointed out, "What exactly do you want me to do?"
"Ignite the flame dust. Only with your aura. That's it. Nothing too hard." The older man replied.
"Still doesn't help..." Kei muttered.

Kei continued to try igniting the fire dust, but he wasn't entirely sure what he was supposed to be doing. How exactly was he supposed to channel his aura to ignite the fire dust? Like using his semblance to generate electricity but not using it at the same time? Kei was messing around with his aura, but it was hard to exactly understand what he was feeling for-

Suddenly, the fire dust in his hand ignited. The red and orange flames danced in his open palm. Kei stood there dumbstruck as he absorbed what had just happened. He just ignited the fire dust. Kei couldn't help but grin. He wasn't entirely sure what he had just did, but it worked.

His hand started getting hot. It started burning. The fire dust was burning his hand. Kei pannicked and quickly flipped his hand over to drop the fire from his hand. Kei then proceeded to pat that same hand against his coat, to smolder any flames left.

There was a sharp pain in his hand. Lifitng it, Kei saw he had burnt through his glove, leaving a hole in the middle of it. His exposed palm was covered with minor burns.

"What the he**." Kei swore angrily, "Was this supposed to happen? Why didn't I get any warning?"
"You broke your concentration," Garth simply said shaking his head, "Obviously you have to keep your aura under control. Don't pay attention to what's going on, you lose control of your aura. Lose control of that and you lose control of the flames."

-------------

Kei continued on with his for the next few hours on the beach while Garth watched over him. In that time, Kei managed to get a light grasp on how to manipulate low amounts of lower end fire dust.

"I must make my leave now." Garth told Kei, "But there is one last thing I need to tell you."

Garth paused for a second, looking out over the horizon of the ocean. The day was growing late and the sun was beginning to set. It may have just been the light playing tricks on Kei's eyes, but there was different shadow cast on Garth's face, as if the old man had some dark secret, some dark past.

"The thing about fire controlling fire," Garth continued, his voice quieter now, almost like a whisper, "Its the same as controlling pure destruction. Fire, in the hands of a skilled warrior, is the means to destroy. I've always taken with my power, I've never given back. I've never created anything anew. Burning things down was all I knew..."

Garth then approached Kei and handed him a small gem bag filled with fire dust crystals.

"I don't know." Garth said, "Maybe you can find what I couldn't."

With that, Garth turned around, and began to leave the beach. Kei said nothing as he did, instead, he watched the back of the Fire Sage as he was walking off. Kei didn't have to fully understand the Fire Sage's personal story to know what he meant. Kei himself knew that he also felt like that at times. It was easier to destroy then it was to create. It didn't matter if it was worse. With his own limited power, sometimes the only option he had was to destroy. So be it if he had to carry around the burden of what he had sacrifice, what he had to give up, what he had to end if it meant achieving what had to be done.
